Charles Melton in Talks to Play Kakashi in Live-Action Naruto Movie

Charles Melton could be taking on one of the most recognizable characters in the Naruto universe.

The actor is reportedly in close talks to play Kakashi Hatake in the upcoming live-action Naruto movie, which is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.

The potential casting comes as Lionsgate continues developing its long-awaited adaptation of the popular Japanese manga and anime franchise.

Charles Melton Could Become Kakashi

Melton is reportedly being considered for the role of Kakashi Hatake, the experienced ninja and mentor known for leading Team 7.

The character is one of the most popular figures in the Naruto franchise, making the reported casting a major development for fans of the original manga and anime.

Lionsgate has not officially confirmed Melton's involvement, and further details about the deal have yet to be revealed.

Naruto Live-Action Movie Moves Forward

The reported casting comes after a global search began for actors to portray the younger versions of Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno.

The original Naruto story follows Naruto, a young ninja who dreams of becoming the protector and leader of his village.

The live-action movie is being developed by Lionsgate with Destin Daniel Cretton attached to direct.

Charles Melton's Rising Hollywood Profile

Melton has continued to build momentum in Hollywood in recent years.

He received an Emmy nomination for his performance in the second season of Netflix's Beef, starring alongside Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan and Cailee Spaeny.

He also earned widespread critical praise for his performance in Todd Haynes' 2023 drama May December.

The actor is also known for his work in Riverdale, as well as appearances in films including Warfare and Her Private Hell.

Destin Daniel Cretton Leads Naruto

Cretton brings experience working across both independent cinema and major studio productions to the Naruto adaptation.

He first gained attention with the critically acclaimed Short Term 12, before directing films including The Glass Castle and Just Mercy.

He later moved into the superhero genre with Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The filmmaker is now overseeing the live-action Naruto project, which has been in development for years.

Who Is Producing the Naruto Movie?

Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Emmy Yu are set to produce the movie through Arad Productions, alongside Jeremy Latcham.

Cretton is also producing through his company Hisako with Jeyun Munford.

The project has a long history in development. An earlier attempt to bring Naruto to the big screen was reported in 2014, with Michael Gracey previously attached as director.

For now, fans will have to wait for an official announcement regarding Melton's casting and the rest of the movie's lineup.

If the deal moves forward, however, Charles Melton's potential transformation into Kakashi could become one of the most closely watched aspects of the highly anticipated live-action adaptation.
